meowzbow and strider

pixel sundays!

i decided a while ago that i wasn’t going to insist on illustrating the cover to my own book. then the designer that seven stories hired suggested that the cover should be a mosaic of pixel faces – think of these as the faces of the kinds of people who can make videogames (everyone). you can see a small version of his original design on the site, featuring pixel people that would be licensed from eboy. well, i wasn’t going to stand idly by and let eboy illustrate my cover when i could be making more work for myself, so i insisted i draw the faces. i’ve drawn 120 so far, including meowzbow (top), strider (bottom) and carl sagan.

let me tell you about our special kitties! meowzbow is a princess who enjoys disdain, punching strider, and drinking out of cups because he thinks it makes him more like people. he doesn’t put his face in and slurp, mind you. he dips a dainty paw in and then licks the water off his fingertips.  strider is a ruff tuff musclecat. he works out by doing laps around the apartment, climbing to the top of the kitchen, and swiping at your legs. he is fascinated by containers of all sorts: plastic bags, cardboard boxes, and cabinets, and wants to get inside them if he can. he likes to open the high-up kitchen cupboards, climb inside, and shut them behind him. he’s a smarty cat.

they’re mostly antagonistic toward each other, but sometimes we come home and catch them cuddling on the sofa.

carl sagan likes the stars and the promise of contact with the extraordinarily different civilizations that may live there.
