revisionist saturdays?
a new version of calamity annie is now available: changes include a bunch of bug fixes and small improvements, a high score display during the opening and title screen, and four new characters for players who donate, including “parker benchwood” (not pictured), the first recorded player to achieve the fabled third one-up at $20,000 and reigning high score champion at $20,280.
if you didn’t know, one-ups are earned at $5000, $10,000, and $20,000. here’s another secret: the crosshair doesn’t appear on some of the game’s screens. however, if you press the right mouse button on some of these screens, the crosshair may return.
so that brings the total count of extra hombres up to nine. if you’ve already donated and received your password, you’ve already got ‘em: just download the new version of the game. if you havn’t donated yet, there’s no time like the present. your high score, story progress and unlocked extras carry over from version one to version two; just grab the new file and install it over the old one.
download links remain the same, so keep posting the original annie link in your blogs and forums.
and while we’re on the subject of calamity annie, some making-of screens and mockups have been posted over at the gamer’s quarter’s new development forum.

Ah, the right-click thing is good to know.
The old version worked better for me. Out of the two times I’ve tried to play so far, the first time it hung on the opening, with a black screen and the opening music. The second time, it seemed to load fine, I put in my secret password, then went to play a game, and it hung up on the first fight. I had to close it through Task Manager, and it also caused my Firefox to stop responding. All this took about fifteen minutes, so I haven’t bothered to try it again yet.
Oh, and I should add, I didn’t have any problems with the first one, except that it took a long time to load, but I thought that was probably normal.
until i root out the problem, you can get the original version of the game from here:

am i one of hte new characters
you’re one of the old characters.
Is the code remotely portable?
hell no, it’s game maker!
though i’m trying to distance myself from game maker, given all the issues people have been having with this game. game maker never was an ideal platform, anyway.
