the “blob” sprite is from a screenshot i took myself. it’s of the stage six(?) boss, madda lin, lying on the ground after her defeat. i thought her arm and face were easy to make out, but i guess i was wrong.
once i took a step back from the monitor and could make out the leg and arm it clicked

it’s made up to look like a dungeon from the nes dragon quests and the boss is an otaku serial killer who morphs into *a big-headed baby* that *builds a giant replica of a dq1 character around itself as a protective barrier* and then the dq guy selects his attacks from his own primitive first-person battle screen/menu
